About Us

BellaMenti expertly addresses the cognitive, social, and mental aspects that impact successful learning and performing in any formal or informal learning setting, whether it is for school or at work.

All Educational Therapy sessions are scoped and sequenced according to a Plan of Action (PA), which is created in collaboration with the student’s professional assessor (School Psychologist, Neuropsychologist or Educational Psychologist). The client’s Educational Therapy Plan of Action drives the treatment plan and all PAs are driven and directed by Kathryn. This is explained during your Intake session.

Kathryn Tournat, M.S., ET/P, a Professional Educational Therapist, with over 28 years of experience helping students of all ages and needs Learn How to Learn. She directs BellaMenti as well as the tutors and success mentors who work through us. She works directly with any student and/ or case manages students, 2nd grade through adult, who require any or all of the therapeutic aspects of developing their thinking and learning.

For those students who need less than remediation, but still need help, Kathryn directs and mentors Tutors (subject-specific homework sitters) and study skill development specialist called Success Mentors.

BellaMenti’s clients are students, parents, and adults who may or may not have Learning or Attention Challenges. Although, most students are with us for the expert and therapeutic remediation of their reading, math, writing, executive functioning, working memory, and/or slow processing.

With BellaMenti, the student will be guided to understand how to facilitate, accommodate, advocate, and communicate their own Whole-Self thinking and learning experience and performance.

BellaMenti works with students in their homes, on their campus, in the office, at the library, and/or in the park. BellaMenti has a presence in Pleasanton, Danville, and Berkeley.

Kathryn’s credentials are

  • Masters of Science (M.S.I/O) in Cognitive Psychology plus 70 units (over 2 years of full time study) of post graduate work; all applied to the issues of Learning How to Learn.
  • Professional Educational Therapy (ET/P) status confirmed by the Association of Educational Therapists (AET) in 2005. This status required over 2,000 of supervised hours.
  • Currently seeking her PhD in Learning/Thinking and Happiness through the University of California, LA and Berkeley.

Tutors are subject specific relief workers. Ours have gone through special training and must meet the requirement of 5 successful observations for each student they are assigned; all by the Director and one by the professional PhD who completed any accompanying assessment (if they are available to do so).

Tutors are awarded the opportunity to work with your child only after our Director, Kathryn, has created a Plan of Action with the professional assessor (mentioned above) and the parents. (Please see the Getting Started tab.)

Success Mentors have gone through trainings in both Executive Functioning and Mentoring. They facilitate motivation as well as teach study skills.
